Gavin
Hi my name is Dylan and I am going to
be two years old in September. I have a big brother his name
is Gavin. He will be four in August. We do all kinds of things
together like playing with blocks and with cars. We are both
learning how to count objects and ask for things that we
want. My mommy says that we are both her little men and that
my big brother is a very special person. He may not be able
to talk a lot yet and needs help with certain things but
he will always be my big brother. And we are learning from
each other as we grow.
Hi I am Gavin and Dylan's mom. We first started to notice
that Gavin was having a problem with his speech and doing
some puzzles. We just thought that he would advance at his
own pace and would catch up. But as he reached 18 months
and still wasn't speaking only in repetition and in song.
We finally had to admit that something wasn't right. So between
our pediatrician and the help from Early Intervention Program
we began the long process of testing. We didn't know that
Gavin was autistic until just this last fall. It was the
hardest thing to have to hear. To know that there is no cure
and that he will always have this was really painful. We
have reached a point where we are confident that with continued
therapy and school that we will be able to help him achieve
a balance in his life.
We thank God everyday that he has given us such special children
and we wouldn't change anything about them.
